“Who’s there”, I asked
“The love of your life”, whispered my heart.
“No, that’s not right,” I whispered back.
“I thought he would be older.”
“He helps you and comforts you”,
My heart whispered to me.
“Listen.”
“Knock, knock”, said my heart
“Who’s there”, I asked
“Our beloved,” said my heart.
“No, that’s not right,” I whispered back.
“I thought he would be taller.”
“He keeps you safe and protects you,”
My heart said to me.
“Watch.”
“Knock, knock”, said my heart
“Who’s there”, I asked
“Your eternal flame,” declared my heart.
“No, that’s not right,” I whispered back.
“I thought he would be closer.”
“Distance is false, his soul stands beside you,”
My heart explained to me.
“Feel.”
“Knock, knock”, said my heart
“Who’s there”, I asked
“My desire,” asserted my heart.
“No, that’s not right,” I whispered back.
“I never thought he’d be so gifted.”
“He teaches you and guides you,”
My heart entreated me.
“Accept.”
“Knock, knock”, said my heart
“Who’s there”, I asked
“The one,” announced my heart.
“No, that’s not right,” I whispered back.
“He’s nothing like I imagined.”
“He’s everything you dream of”
My heart pleaded with me.
“Love him.”
For my heart’s sake I started to listen.
For my heart’s sake I started to watch.
He comforted me and made me feel safe.
For my heart’s sake I started to feel.
For my heart’s sake I started to accept.
For my heart’s sake I started to love.
For my sake I continue.
