Was Friendship Made To Be Forgotten
72
someone helped me once through a bad time
he cared for me and we became friends
when I needed a friend he threw me a line
maybe he was a friend to have till all ends
we talked some but then he became distant and far
friendship beginning seemed suddenly ending
light that was dawning became suddenly dark
friendship was now more a stranger pending
a veil over the eyes and heart was offending
to me who did not know what had transpired
friendship beginning seemed suddenly ending
to know what had happened was all I desired
hurt I was sure was behind the words
hurled at me carelessly thrown, spit, written
my reply was confused a careful ford
of the deep rivers between us I was bitten
by the meaness displayed confusion to steam
soon was erupting I replied this time with heat
a “friend” would answer, a “friend” would deem
to answer a friend with whom once they would meet
to tell the friend what went amiss not be still
and silent and gone Friends would talk about what
was wrong Silence continued hope died slowly until
resignation took its place So be it this cut
goes deep in the heart which opened for one
and now would start to build the walls
again but maybe not Maybe the walls are done
maybe she knows it is not she but he who caused the fall
of friendships by building walls She cannot be broken
again by one so uncaring, cold, sterile Life means more
and hurt can be burned away by sharing Love is not a token
to give and take by whim Once love is given evermore
does it live in her heart She will not forget his help or hand
given when needed Friendship provided when none survived
anger gone now smoothed out with grit and sand
words on paper scour the emotion regret sets in revived
in memories of harsh words spoken Maybe she will never
know what caused the rift and made this friendship so arduous
he may someday regret also Maybe he will find the lever
that will give happiness to his soul Or the rigorous
wall building may leave him boxed in like Fortunato
learning slowly that life is too short she finds blame
is not always hers Times occur when rumor or motto
jealousy or belief corrupt love Other people play games
with truth to confuse us She doen’t believe in her heart
he plays the games of untruth and lonlieness A pawn
of others baseness he may be She gives life a new start
and forgives the meanness shown Knowing her own
confusion she knows his Life is too short and stark
friendship beginning seemed suddenly ending
llght that was dawning became suddenly dark
solar eclipse should this friendship have mending

Yes friends often come and go
A tumultuous journey relationships can take us on. Very well written k@ri! My heartstrings have been tugged...
what a great expression of frienship gained and lost...really drew me in to your description of this relationship....sometimes the hardest thing to understand is what happens when people stop being our friends and we don't know why. You are so talented, keep them coming.
Beautiful way of wrting you turmoil K@ri. Well done too. Forget the bastard. You have more and better friends now.
A great piece of writing K@ri, could feel your anguish. Chin up!
It was beautiful but made me feel sad for you
Kari, this is one I will have to mull over. Everyone who has had a friend can identify with this poem. I guess in these situations the only thing we can do is 'grow' from the experience. I am not sure 'time heals all wounds', but it certainly helps. Thanks for a thought provoking piece of writing.
