Life is a Choice
69Where are You Going?
Every day, every minute, every second we are making choices. Are your choices governed by a plan or by randomness? Do you know where you are going or are you just going? What do you want from life? Money, power and love are three of the prevailing themes used to answer this question.
The living of life can be compared to driving a car. Some people don't really know where they want to go and drive around aimlessly waiting for something to happen. Some start out with a purpose, but get sidetracked along the way. Others drive with a purpose. They know where they are going, have mapped the way in advance and set out with a goal in mind.
I believe each of us has a choice a how we live our lives; a choice on how we react to life events; a choice on how we think. These are things that we truly control in our lives. There is not much else we can control, except ourselves. We can try to control others or our situations, but these are not ours to control.
No matter what you believe, you are making choices every second of every day. You can choose to be positive, negative or apathetic. The healthy choice is positive. Positive thoughts will lead to optimism. Negative thoughts lead to pessimism. Apathy leads to indifference.
Energy Cannot be Destroyed
Everyone makes the choices they can live with...all goals are different. My goal is eternal life. This goal is what I base my choices on. I know to many this is an unrealistic goal. Others know that everyone gets eternal life, it's just which side of the fence you are on. For those who think it all ends with death, read The Sandman's hub The Need to Believe and realize we are, each of us, energy.
Energy cannot be made or destroyed, it can only be changed. Upon death our energy is not destroyed, it is changed. We are conscious creatures...is the consciousness part of the energy, or is it entirely organic? I believe our consciousness is part of the energy. All thought, all feeling, all memory is tied up in those little gaps, the synapses of the mind. The place of the continual uptake and re-uptake of electrical impulses and neurotransmitters.
Stay on Track
What type of energy will you add to the world? Will your energy contribute to the good energy? If your goal is money or power, be very careful. You may lose yourself during your journey. People will pull you in different ways. Do not let them pull you so far that you lose who you are. One compromise may lead to another and another, until you have forgotten how you began. You lose your personal compass and begin down a different road.
You began your journey with a goal in sight, but became sidetracked on the way. You look around one day and ask, "how did I get here?" You are no longer the person you wanted to be. You have lost your personal integrity, modifying it over time to fit your needs and wants. When you realize this, it is time to re-evaluate your life. Ask yourself, "am I in charge of my destiny, or am I just going along for the ride."
What is personal integrity? RKHenry has written a great hub on personal integrity. Read it to understand how personal integrity makes us complete and keeps us on the correct road in our journey. Personal integrity is the GPS unit on our journey in life. It will guide us on our journey and warn us if we are about to make a wrong turn.
Good and Evil
How many movies do you know of that end with the bad guy winning? Don't include all those horror movies trying for a sequel and how many are left? Not very many. Why is it that people want the good guy to win? Why do we love a movie (or book) where good triumphs over evil? Who decides what is good and what is evil.
Society and culture attempt to clarify good and evil. Society clarifies by interpreting these concepts into law. Culture defines the etiquette and the actions. Religion is crowded with the concept of good and evil. However, good and evil are very personal concepts. What is good for one may be evil for another. Some cultures consider a belch after a good meal to be good manners. Other cultures consider it the height of bad manners.
Live the Good Life
My Choice
Each of us has to define what is good and what is not. We must decide how we want to live and where we want to go. We need to consciously think about our actions and our words to ensure we give off the correct energy. We must control our lives, not just react to what is going on around us. We must choose how we want to live.
A long time ago, I decided I wanted to show love through my living. I believe love to be the best of the good things in this world. I wanted my energy to be love. I try to live my life by the following rule:
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13)
This is the energy I want to add to the world. This is what I do to decrease the bad energy in the world. I believe that each of our actions will add good, or bad, energy. I also believe that unless you actively try to spread good, it will contribute to the bad. Even doing nothing, neither good nor bad, is a choice...a choice not to do good.
Life is a choice. We can choose to have control over our lives. Control your journey by having a goal in mind and being conscious of the energy you give off. Do not let others guide your journey. Action, not reaction, is the key to controlling your life. There is no conscious thought involved when reaction happens. We need to think first and act second.
No one can “make you feel” anything unless you give them the power to. No one can “make you do” anything unless you choose to do it. At times we all feel as if there is no choice, but there always is. It all depends on what you are willing to lose. Are you willing to lose yourself to gain power or money? It is your choice.

K@ri,
This a very well thought out and written hub. I think a lot of people would benefit from this hub. Thank you, thank you, thank you for mentioning personal integrity. Thank you so much for the shout out. Really. Thanks.
Wonderful, wonderful hub, K@ri!
And I don't just say this after weeping through the entire Validation film, either!
Thank you for putting focus back into my life
I really really enjoyed this one a lot. and thanks for the plug
Absolutely right on with the fact that energy cannot be destroyed, it may sit or transfer, but it is always there. Excellent point! I did read RK's integrity hub, so I'm right there with you on that point as well. Wonderful reference. Nice thoughts on good and evil as well. It can be hard to swallow this truth, but I do feel it is just that. I love the fishing video. I've heard that story told before. It's a wonderful one. I think it's an important one. And action not reaction, absolutely. The validation video is far frickin out! I love love love it! I'm passing this along!
I love when things turn out like that so by change. Like given gifts. Yea, some people are just so fantastic at finding those gems. It amazes me sometimes.
great hub! I also think that our lives consisit of our small choices that we do every day, every minute... I even hate people who try to blame fate or other people in their problems! everything we have at the very moment is the result of our deeds!!
Hi k@ri, yes I do have focus in most areas but there are a few where I tend to get a little distracted before the focus part actually kicks in. lol
The fact that you have reminded us to live positive is a wonderful thing and I would have to say a great hub! This hub was very insightful and had a lot of information on how to stay positive giving the steps in doing positive reinforcements!
Thanks for such a great hub

I agree with everything you wrote. Great hub! Thank you!
I have surely enjoyed reading your hub. I also learned from it a lot.
...it is not about directions but instead discovering the truth. And the truth absolutely has nothing to do with money or what you have and intend to do....
"The meaning of life is directly related with your relationship with yourself"
Life is about selflessness...
There is so much good stuff in here. When I was young, I used to play a board game called "Careers". To win this game, you get to choose what your ultimate goal is for "happiness", "fame", and "money". You must collect a total of 100 points, but you get to decide at the beginning of the game in which of those three areas you want to allocate those points. I had a lot of fun with that game, but it also taught me to be a lot more conscious about life goals and how I go about achieving them. I also really agree with you that life goals may change, so it is always important to make sure that the destination is actually where you want to be.
I really enjoyed what you said about compromising ourselves in little bits, and then suddenly finding a stranger in the mirror. There was this really good Twilight Zone (or maybe it was Hitchcock) episode about this man who got an anonymous note saying ... "If so-and-so dies, you will receive $5000". Soon after, he got a check in the mail for $5000, together with another similar note. Naturally, his curiosity and greed kicked in and he started to research the new so-and-so. He finds out that the new person is actually in the hospital and in critical condition. He goes to visit the patient etc. and after a few days gets another check. This happens a few more times and finally he gets another note saying that he will get some large sum of money if another so-and-so dies. However, this time, the person is young and healthy. He becomes obsessed with this person and ends up murdering him.
It is sometimes too easy for us to get slowly sucked into doing things that we may not do otherwise.
Sorry for rambling, but I really enjoyed your hub and it made me think of many life lessons. Also, thanks for including my hub. :)
Wow, lots of really good thoughts in here K@ri. Reminds me of a quote by Socrates: "The unexamined life is not worth living." Thanks for the inspirational thoughts!
Here's my song on this topic:
great hub. thank you. good verse to live by.
I agree! Life is about choices...it's up to us to choose. That validation film is wickedly awesome! When I saw it was, like, 16 minutes, I didn't think I would watch it, but I watched the whole thing and, like mindfield, had some tears in my eyes.
"A long time ago, I decided I wanted to show love through my living."
Beautiful, powerful words. This is but one of my messages in my 3100 Years Later articles. It is up to your species to create change in a positive way everyday, starting with your family and community.

This is a great Hub! Thanks for calling my attention to it. I am glad you did.
i like this hub. you have shared something that somehow had opened my mind and reminded me of some things.
you have a good and positive output in life and it is very interesting how you put all those things in words.
God bless
Great post, wonderful insight!!! The world in which we live is made up of two energies: positive and negative and like a generator operating on positive and negative batteries. The balance is the key....that's why it's so important to always keep our heart in tack and shielded as our heart is the most important and delicate generator we possess within our bodies. Metaphorical but you get my drift. Many Blessings!! ~ K
Hey K@ri! Nice Hub! Well thought out and very positive! Where would we be without love? God Bless.
